The WAEA Fall Conference is the annual professional development for visual arts teachers in the state of Washington. It is hosted by the Washington Art Education Association.

"PRE-FUNK":

This year the event begins with a "Pre-Funk" function on Friday night at the Enzian Inn (590 US Highway 2) in Leavenwoth from 6-8 PM. This is an "extra" and will be a wonderful art-making and social gathering which will cost only $30.00 per participant.

KEY-NOTE SPEAKER: OLIVIA GUDE

Olivia Gude is a nationally acclaimed artist and educator who has worked in the field of community public art for 25 years and has created over 50 large-scale mural and mosaic projects, often working with inter-generational groups, teens, elders, and children. She has created major works in Los Angeles; Madison, Wisconsin; Covington, Kentucky; and DeKalb, Illinois as well as numerous projects in the Chicago area.

Gude has received many grants and awards, including an Arts Midwest National Endowment for the Arts Regional Fellowship in Painting, a State of Illinois Fellowship for Outstanding Achievement in the Visual Arts, and a 1993 National Endowment for the Arts Art in Public Places grant. In 2000, she was chosen as one of 56 Artists and Communities: America Creates for the Millennium artists: she was awarded the A & C commission for the state of Kentucky.

OCTOBER 24 CONFERENCE DAY:

The conference begins at 8AM with a coffee and sweet roll "meet and greet"- lunch is provided with Vegetarian, Chicken, Beef or Turkey options and dinner will be an opportunity for independent dining at any of the variety of fine restaurants in scenic Leavenworth. There will be a large variety of presenters and sessions available as well as Visual Arts Vendors and the annual Silent Auction that benefits the WAEA Stuart Davis Scholarship given each year to a deserving high school graduate. The conference concludes at 6PM with clock hours or college credits available.
